Yahoo’s Search Slide unabated.

Bing has been gaining at the expense of Yahoo for about a year now. While Microsoft’s Bing has now attained market share of 11.3 percent up from 10.7 percent level of December 2009, Yahoo’s search market share continues to nosedive. Google still remains the undisputed king with 65.4 percent market share. Yahoo’s search slide is a cause for worry for company as company focuses a lot on revenues from search advertising. Yahoo’s deal with Microsoft has not yet been implemented owing to regulatory clearances. The deal between Yahoo and Microsoft was forged to thwart Google’s challenge but what has been evident now is that while these companies nibble at each other’s revenues and market share, Google’s dominance remains unaffected.

It is important for Yahoo and Microsoft to get the deal implemented without any delay. Any further delay in implementation would affect the search revenues for both these giants. Bing has been eating in to Yahoo’s share and loyal and dedicated search users of Yahoo’s search engine continues to shift their loyalties to Bing and Google.

The 10-year search deal calls for Microsoft to not only power Yahoo’s search properties but also be in charge of selling search ads. In exchange, Microsoft will share revenue for ads monetized on Yahoo search sites and on those of Yahoo’s search network partners.

Let’s wait and keep our fingers crossed for the changed scenario to unfold.
