Why Cloud Computing Not Taking-off.

clouds Why Cloud Computing Not Taking off. technologyCloud computing is the buzz word today. One can find many articles and blogs being written about cloud computing technology. AmazonGoogle Docs, SkyDrive   and Azure are all cloud computing variants from different organizations. But the cloud computing movement is not taking progressing as the pundits had us to believe. There are some hard core skeptics who will never swear by Cloud storage. The top five reasons which are restricting the adoption of cloud computing technology can be narrated as below.

  1. Cloud protagonists often speak about the savings which a cloud computing adoption would entail. Concept of Software as a-service and Infrastructure as a-service would bring in short term gain and may look very attractive initially but in the long term when the company starts growing then cloud computing decisions may not present themselves as the viable option.
  2. Security of data is another such issue. In a cloud computing model loads and loads of data are stored at a faraway location which may be inaccessible physically. So when the server crashes and there are issues with data securities and backups then you are doomed. Though it may not exactly happen as all solution providers would have second and third layer of backing up. But eventualities can not be ruled out.
  3. It may so happen that your cloud computing solution provider may just wind up due to change in business or political environment or may suffer losses. In such an eventuality the company’s data may be lost and may not be retrievable.
  4. You may bind the the service provider with legalities through contracts but service providers sitting in other countries can not be reined by law of the users’ countries.
  5. Employees of cloud computing  service provider may carry with them data of their clients when they leave their respective organisations and you may find yourself at the receiving end.
