For new Twitter users, it has always been a challenge to find and build up follow lists. There are many niches and interest groups which a new user would like to subscribe to in jiffy. But a new user always faces a problem in finding out the authoritative voice on any particular subject. But it appears the wait is going to end soon. Now one can have the customized follow lists from Twitter itself.
This may not sound something extraordinary but would be of immense help to new Twitter users who would be looking to jumpstart their initialization phase. The custom lists would be available for Scientists, Gays, Athletes and other interest groups. Twitter has also announced that Twitter API for the Follow list shall also be available on the very first day itself. Of course there are some third party tools like Lunch and TweepML which can be employed for this purpose but the authority would be many a times more when the lists are compiled and released from Twitter itself.
Soon to Launch: Lists could also be created by Twitter users and would be public by default (They can be even made private). List feature by Twitter is under testing and shall be released once all tests are successfully completed.
Twitter has this announcement on their official post.
Lists are public by default (but can be made private) and the lists you’ve created are linked from your profile. Other Twitter users can then subscribe to your lists. This means lists have the potential to be an important new discovery mechanism for great tweets and accounts.
We started working on this feature because of the frequent requests we received from people who were looking for a better way to organize information on Twitter. Of course, that means not just twitter.com—the Platform team will follow up in a few days with information on the Lists API. This will allow developers to add support for Lists into your favorite Twitter apps.
