Right time to buy a netbook

One of my acquaintances asked me recently, Is this the right time buy a netbook? I looked at him quizzingly and tried to figure out what’s there in his mind. The question reminded me that netbooks sales are still rising sharply and probably its the only segment in PC market which is registering the positive growth.

All netbooks models being sold presently are coming with XP operating system. Memory hungry Vista has not taken off in netbook segment and with release of Windows 7 on the anvil, some would say that better wait for three more months till Windows 7 is released. Microsoft’s CEO Mr Ballmer during his keynote address at CES 2009 had showcased a lightweight Windows 7 for netbooks.

Windows 7 operating system for netbooks is expected to hit the market during September 2009 and is expected to be a lightweight system. Dealers are presently offering heavy discounts and coming up with various schemes to lure the customers. Windows 7 netbooks buyers will have the option to downgrade to XP provided they have the copy licensed copy and the installation disc at their end. So even though one finds that netbooks with Windows 7 netbook edition is not living up to the hype, one can easily go in for XP downgrade.

Netbooks have caught fancy of all frequent travellers and the fashionable elites. With netbook in tow one can definitely make a fashion statement.
