Microsoft has come out with a novel game to fine tune Bing. Page Hunt as it is being called asks users to come out with best queries which can rank the displayed page amongst the top five search results. Game is quite simple but when millions of users will participate and give out their suggested queries Microsoft will have intelligent database of queries which will help them fine tune Bing.
New search engine, Bing from Microsoft has already been making waves. The other day there was an article which suggested that Bing users are 50% more likely to click the ads than other users . This piece of statistics may not have much relevance as Bing’s market share is negligible against Google’s might but it can definitely stir Google and Yahoo to acknowledge the ever increasing popularity of Bing.
Beauty of this project will be larger participation of humans and fathoming of user behavior and expressions by Microsoft to realign and improve search results. Google had earlier attempted human computing in its Image- labeler program.Google also has SearchWiki which lets users re-rank results.
With Page Hunt initiative Microsoft may try to bridge in the gap between itself Yahoo and Google in that order.
