Microsoft Office 2010 Will Outsmart Google Docs.
With changing times and changing user preferences, Microsoft has worked hard on its Office suite and has lined up slew of its products for launch in the year 2010. MS Office has been a omnipresent application which every user relies on for Word processing, Calculations, Presentations, emails and Data Storage. Every PC user is aware of MS Office and has used it for carrying out their work.
MS Office, including the latest version 2007 has remained a desktop application. You can of course email your documents but co-authoring and collaborating was always a problem.
Google Docs had always used this (lack of co-authoring tool) to score points over their competitor. But come 2010, Google Docs will not be able to stand against the might of Office 2010 which Microsoft is planning to unleash.
For the first time MS Office will have co-authoring features which will make Google Docs look pale and defeated. Google Docs have long used collaboration and co-authoring as the strongest feature to promote itself but not anymore. Google has to come up with something fast or it will lose whatever ground it has been able to gain in the Office Suite market.
Today, in spite of somewhat decent collaboration features, very corporate houses have moved over to Google Docs for their daily needs. Data security for corporates has always been an issue and still it is. To address this issue Office 2010 propose to offer Web Office on company’s own server or Intranet. And with this smart move Microsoft proposes to offer enhanced security through their Office Web. A smart move indeed.
