Still there are very few Linux users around the world. A newbie who is toying with an idea of staring out on Linux will have to first fight the odds which are there in his mind and then only he or she can fight the world which is outside. So when somebody mentioned a guide ”Linux for beginners“, I was natuarally interested.

Linux has not been popular at all. And the first reaction it invokes is of complexity and absence of support. But all these are baseless assumptions. Linux for beginners is a step in the right direction to dispel these myths. Linux community today is better than many of the Windows forums and going to various forums one can find answer to virtually any problems. Linux for beginners in fact already existed, but this is a good attempt to classify all such information at one place. Questions already have answers available in many such forums. Someone somewhere might have faced similar problem and the same would have been replied through forum. So majority of your problems have already been answered there. And even though you are not in a position to find your answer, just post in on many Linux forums and ever eager Linux users will be there to help you out.
I had this mindset about Linux when I began switching over to Linux about two years back. But to my surprise even without any “Linux for beginners” guide, I found Linux quite user friendly and has a very simple and customizable desktop. Since the day I tried Linux first time, I had remained a loyal Linux user and now very seldom I come back to Windows. I have personally found Linux quite fast and less prone to virus or malicious software attacks.
To move you all newbies to Linux, Stefan Neagu from TuxGeek has come up with some basics in form of a 20 page free e-book (Linux for beginners) which is an absolute must for all beginners. This has been a wonderful initiative from MakeUseOf.com and will be of immense help to all newbies. So just get on with Linux for beginners and give philip to Open Source movement.
