Linux Ubuntu for Corporates.

Yours truly has been using Ubuntu for close to 3 years now. During this period, I have never felt the need to go back to Windows OS. Corporates have been made to believe that there is no substitute to Windows and ideally their hardware should come with pre-installed latest version of Windows. Microsoft today has tie ups with major hardware manufacturers who ship PCs bundled with Windows OS and MS Office.

User pays $150-300 for Windows OS and $300 for Office suite. Ubuntu is the most popular distribution of Linux and it matches Windows OS in the features which are most commonly used. In additional Ubuntu does not require any anti virus software and Firewalls. There’s no need for any anti-virus software or anti-spyware applications on Linux, which comes with a personal firewall, if you want to use it.

Ubuntu also comes with free office suite OpenOffice.org. This suite does most of the tasks which an MS Office suite does. The suite is so identical to MS Office suite in terms of features and tasks it performs that one would hardly feel the need to go back to Windows once they get tuned to this system.

Ubuntu Linux has commercial support available from the company that sponsors it: Canonical. Canonical and Ubuntu are the entrepreneurial ventures of Mark Shuttleworth, Canonical releases new versions of Ubuntu every April and October. There is also a LTS (Long term Support) version which offers support for full 5 years.
