Google Maps, One Application Many Utilities.

Google has offered many free goodies. One such application is Google Maps. This application is being put for many versatile usages in almost every part of world. Google Maps was primarily meant for Googlers to help them in finding out the distances and directions of locations. Even the most die hard fans might not have imagined that it can be put to so multifaceted applications which the developers might have been difficult to imagine. Google Maps has evolved over the years and today its database is so rich and extensive that it covers almost any destination on this planet. But the journey to this evolution has taken some time. Google Maps was first started as a software application by Lars and Jens Rasmussen for the company Where2 . In Oct 2004, the company was taken over by Google.Over the years it has evolved and grown with time. Google Maps is increasingly been employed by navigators all around the world. This fact is known to all of us. But there are some other usages to which Google Maps is being put to use.

• Calculation of Freight Charges by Transporters:-  Logistics companies in the past used to maintain data about all major locations. In order to offer services of transporting the goods from one point to another point, they used to rely on their database which for small and medium organizations was the only way out. Google Maps changed all that.

• Route Survey by logistic companies:- Logistics organizations used to rely on the information about remote places through word of mouth, some old information or through their own resources. They used to undertake the travel to the desired destination for knowing the details. But Google Maps changed all that. Now just by giving the destinations and then selecting alternative route, all intermediate points can be found out. This preliminary information also provides the basis for further analysis by the logistics people to fine tune their reports.
• Finalizing travel plans:- Travelers can now know the exact route map, distance, time taken and any intermediate stops for fueling, lodgings etc.
• Managing Car pools:- Sharing car pool and its management has become quite simple with Google maps.
