Google hugs iPad while Microsoft waits and watches.
Office 2010 is slated for launch in May 2010. With so much of hype and buzz around iPad, Microsoft has so far resisted the temptation to offer Office 2010 tailored to meet the iPad specifics. On the Google has gone ahead and offered lightweight Gmail for iPad. The look and feel of Gmail for Mobile HTML5 web app is awesome and it takes the large displays of Apple iPad in consideration. iPad will also have Youtube and Maps pre-installed and Safari will have Google as the default search engine. But where does that leave Microsoft. Microsoft who has so far reaped the benefits of its pre-installed Windows OS and MS Office on major sales of desktops and notebooks finds itself in some sort of waiting game. It is no surprise that a vast proportion of iPad buyers will wish to have Office 2010 on their iPads. iWork, the business productivity suite on iPad is compatible with MS Office. The documents can be saved and exported in Office formats.
But the vast popularity of MS Office suite may in future bring Apple and Microsoft together. Though Microsoft has denied that it has any plans to bring about an iPad ready Office 2010 but business sense may make Microsoft reconsider its decision.
On the other hand Google has embraced iPad quite lovingly. In addition to Youtube and Google Maps you can also go to the App Store to download Google Mobile App with search by voice.
