You have crossed your forties and are well ensconced in your position in the corporate world. One fine day you have a chat with your old college mate and find yourself in deep depression. I know this would have happened with many of us you have hit the wrong side of forties. You have long wished to be your own master but the circumstances or the daily grind never left any time for you to take a stock.

So the first thing a person with deep desire to branch out and be on his or her own should do is to take a break. A month’s break should help one figure out whether one should continue with the present assignment or the job or leave everything for a new beginning. Make sure your leaving the work place for a months time would not seriously impact the company’s operations.

Having analysed this, take your family in to confidence and share your thoughts with your spouse. You are going to tread a path which is difficult and is way off from your set life schedule. An understanding spouse should help you in relaxing and keeping your thoughts together.

Be sure you have some sort of financial security to fall back on. Three to six months with no earnings should not cause you and your family any trouble.

Having figured out the above, analyse your strong skills and strengths. How you can earn a living by freelancing.

Freelancing will never give you a regular income. But if you are good and talented then non one can stop you from succeeding. The only thing which you must have in plenty is perseverance.
