Present day operating system are quite big in terms of their RAM and hard disk space . Almost all of them occupy lots of space on the computers and slow down the running applications. Linux operating systems have been quite lightweight and if one can prioritize the work and applications, then Linus OS can provide amazing speeds on netbooks and notebooks. But there has to be tradeoff on number and size of applications one can run.
Netbooks market is expected to grow amazingly in 2009. All IT majors have products lined up for launch in 2009. Google’s Android, Microsoft Windows 7 special light weight edition for netbooks and Ubuntu’s light weight minnow Xubuntu, DSL(Damn Small Linux), Fluxbuntu and Puppy are all just raring to go. XP is everywhere in netbooks market. But how long netbooks can latch on to XP is a million dollar question. The successful launch of windows 7 will decide the fate of netbooks’ operating system.
The computing scenario is expected to undergo sea change. Netbooks are going to emerge as the next big thing to hit the computer hardware market.
Even Intel has jumped in to operating system market for netbooks. The release of Moblin 2 in its Alpha avtar, is predominantly a Linux optimized system. Linux even today is the preferred OS for most of the low end netbooks. Linux will continue to dominate the netbooks market. And if Windows 7 is not in a position to fill up the space vacated by XP then Linux will be all over on the netbooks firmament
