Indian Power Projects slated for completion in 11th plan are showing very poor progress. However the achievement at the end of the 11th plan is expected to be around 75%. This is way ahead from the dismal figures of 9th and 10th plan. the silver lining is that all projects which fall under the 78700 MW addition planned in the current plan are progressing and to this private sector has been the handsome contributor. Current plan envisaged capacity addition from private sector to the tune of 19%. This figure is expected to jump to 65% for the 12th plan. This indeed would be a great achievement in planning stage itself.

  • 15,036 MW (18.7%) capacity already commissioned till date.
  • 65,574 MW (81.3%) under construction i.e. orders placed and work is in progress.
  • In addition to above,12,000 MW Captive Power Plants are under execution, against which 2700 MW has been commissioned
  • Against the target of 14,000 MW from Renewables, 5482 MW has been commissioned as on 31.03.09
  • Coal linkages have been provided to all Thermal projects. A capacity of 14,507 MW is scheduled for commissioning during 2009-10.

Besides, projects aggregating to 26,640 MW capacity for commissioning during the 12th Five Year Plan are also under execution.
