Energy Efficiency Opportunity in India.
If anyone was waiting for energy efficiency market to blossom, now is the time to reap the harvest and the seeds of all hard work which the industry sector experts have sown with their rich experience can look forward to a brighter future. I would say without waiting for what the BEE is doing on accreditation, the certified energy auditors should plunge in to lot many opportunities the PAT notification dated 30th March 2012 has thrown open.
We, the energy sector professionals have known for so long that energy efficiency market is a 75000 crs opportunity which will gradually unfold and all those who have been working towards making a career in this field will stand to gain. BEE has recently notified some 470 odd DCs through its notification dated 30th March 2012. The DCs have been given three years to attain target specific energy consumption levels which will help them save penalty and ear e-certs.
The opportunities are there in almost all the industry segments while thermal power stations are garnering the major share of attention in the first list of designated consumers. So the next question is how the certified energy managers/auditors can benefit from the recent developments. The opportunities are there in three broad subheads.
-
Energy Manager role of designated consumers.
-
Sector consultant to designated consumers
-
Accredited energy auditors.
All the above three broad roles would have ample opportunities to excel and get benefited. Energy Efficiency in Buildings is another opportunity which is just peeping out from the BEE window and anytime in near future can become a market for energy efficient professionals who are experts in their respective fields like HVAC, Lighting etc.
Energy auditors certified from BEE have been a sullen lot with many of them even abandoning their interest in the energy efficiency field. The recent developments do raise some hopes.
