Wind turbine on your house top
Probably this would count as one of the biggest breakthroughs in wind turbine technologies. Who would have thought of installing a wind turbine on roof top which could even run at 2mph wind speed. Compare this with a conventional turbine which requires minimum 8mph to run.
WindTronics 760 has come out with a product which produces power at turbine blade ends rather than the hub coupled to gear box which is typical of a conventional turbine. Typical diameter of a WindTronics 760 variant is 6 ft and it is expected to weigh 90 lbs. The variant received rave reviews at Las Vegas Ace Hardware show held last week. And if commercialized successfully, this model will be hugely popular. The promoters have claimed that this variant can on an average produce 1500 KW per year basis which on a rough average amounts to 15% of the typical average energy requirement of a residential building.
Already, EarthTronics -a startup distributor of alternate energy devices has plans to come out with slightly bigger models for commercial buildings and offices. The sales are expexted to begin in early fall through various channels.
One of the biggest bottleneck in adoption of any alternate energy initiative remains service support backup. Unless this is tied up, it has been experienced, the product is never successful. Company has presently plans to produce 3000-5000 units per month.
If all technical issues are addressed, model can be hugely successful in developing countries.
