The ominous signs associated with  Global Warming are now visible. We have entered in to the dreaded time zone where the option is now or never. We have been hearing about it for a long time now. Our scientific fraternity had been forewarning us for many years now about the devastation of catastrophic propositions which is looming large over our head.

Any inaction now will lead to our children sufferring in the times to come.  Already, we have started feeling the heat, literally. Temperature rise and climatic variation have started damaging agricultural growth. The ominous signs are Heat waves, Ocean warming, sea-level rise, Glaciers melting, Arctic and Antarctic warming.

Cutting across nations, regions, languages, religions we have to start acting now. Let bigger issues be debated by our leaders, let developed nations continue to revise their CO2 emissions figures, let complacency amongst our senior decision makers still prevail, but we can’t wait. We have to act now and start doing our own bit to reduce carbon emissions.

There are a number of ways through which we can contribute our bit towards better world for our children. However small these steps may be but all these can contribute to lowering of CO2 emissions.

We have listed down some points, which we can easily integrate in our daily habits. Believe me, these steps will definitely contribute to making this world a better place to live.

  • Switch off your lights, fans when you leave even for 5 minutes.
  • Run your AC with thermostat set at little higher level.
  • Defrost your AC/Freezer regularly.
  • Use CFLs extensively.
  • Unplug your Laptop and mobile charger, when not in use.
  • Use recycled paper, cans and goods where Recycled sign is there.
  • Boil as much water you need. Don’t put excess water in the pan.
  • Use Solar cookers
  • Install at least one small 100 LPD Solar Water Heating system
  • Install one Solar Home lighting system based on photovoltaic’s.
  • Promote use of Sensor timers and Other timers to save on the electricity.
  • Fix your leaks.
  • Eat seasonal foods, fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables transported by air or stored in ‘Cold Storage’s’ contributes to global warming.
  • Plant one tree at least in a year.
  • Don’t take bath in Tub, use buckets.
  • Water plants in evening as watering them in the morning leads to loss of water through solar evaporation.
  • Go to office in shared car, pool or public transport.
  • If you happen to be a holiday lover, choose destinations which are nearer to your place.
  • Use cars fitted with CNG or LPG.
  • In winters
    • Draw curtains to prevent heat loss at dusk.
    • Use dark color on outside of walls
    • Stop air ingress in to a conditioned room.
    • Have cavity walls in your house.
  • Don’t leave Refrigerator doors open for long.

Above are only some of the steps. We can in fact adopt many other ways which will have far reaching benefits.
