Extending Earth Hour
28th March 2009, was a day when the change was visible. The success of Earth Hour , all around the globe has lend credence to the fact that people are awakening from their slumber. Realization has dawned on masses that its either now or never. The event on 28th March 2009 saw people from close to 84 countries taking part. Time zone by time zone lights started dimming the went off.
The show began with distant Chatham islands in southern pacific ocean and soon time zone by time zone about 1000 signature landmarks all around the globe, went voluntarily dark for an hour. The organizers, World Wildlife Foundation, estimated the response (Watch Video) was terrific in all the 84 nations who had decided to take part in this event. There are no data to suggest on the savings but in one Indian city alone, the power saved during the Earth Hour was 1000 MW.
The movement should not stop. The journey should continue. Now that world has woken up to the dangers of Climate Change caused by Green House Gas emmissions, the movement should not stop.
The next big event is scheduled in December at Copenhagen, DenmarK. Whole world expect that every single nation should renounce their egos and come together for a noble cause. The issue of Climate Change and Global Warming if it is not addressed now then probably it will be too late.
