US has embarked on an ambitious incandescent bulb phase out program. The objective is to promote energy efficient other types of lighting instruments like LEDs. Though Thomas Edison’s incandescent bulb was scene changing innovation. But even the great Edison would hv traded for a LED today in place of incandescent lamp. Some republicans do claim that the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 does not exactly ban energy guzzlers incandescent lamps.

Above timelines have been mandated in USA for a brighter energy efficient future. The comparisons amongst various types of lighting equipment only emphasises that the sooner we switch to energy efficient LEDs the better it is.

In India we don’t have such a movement taking place at present but the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, India the watchdog and enabler for energy efficient India will soon mandate and come up with US like phase out programs for having a better and energy efficient India. This move would only help the nation to save our resources and contribute towards “Avoided capacity addition” of the Government.
