Even management consultants and corporate workers cannot do away without logging equivalent amount of hours in front of desktops. With advent of computers in our normal working life, we have been exposed to many diseases which have arisen from our sedentary life styles. Today there are serious questions raised over health of young computer professionals. Would they be able to survive without getting burned out next 10 years of working long hours on computers? The answer is no. Some of them would huff and puff to reach the 10 years time line while majority of them would be having serious ailments if they continue to live out the same sedentary life style. The effects of having a stressed existence are being felt by Information Technology (IT) workers throughout the world. Work related ailments are being experienced by many IT geeks. Hypertension, Heart diseases, upset stomachs, back and spinal disorders, dry eyes are to name a few such diseases.

What you can do to stave of the crisis resulting from working long hours on computer.

Take short breaks after every hour of working long hours on computer. Just stroll around for one or two minutes. Prolong break periods once you reach latter half of your daily grind.

  • Avoid regular work on Laptops. If this can not be avoided, try to have separate keyboards and mouse.
  • Position your chair and work table properly. Chair should be ergonomically designed. Eyes should be in level with monitor. Arms and wrists should be properly supported.
  • Exercise daily. Morning exercise or yoga prepares our body for daily grind.
  • Have proper meals. Home cooked food or less oily food should be taken.
  • Avoid fast foods and processed foods.

These are few tips which can make you stay healthy and face off strenuous working long hours. These tips are only suggestive, once you realize the need to have a healthy and balanced approach, you will be able to remain healthy and stay fit. The rule of the game is not to get overworked with deadlines. The health should be given the importance which it truly deserves.
