Social networking sites can add years to your life
Lady Greenfield, professors at Oxford has stirred hornets’ net by declaring that social media sites are ruining our children’s minds. In an address to House of Lords, she raised this issue while emphasizing the need to regulate children’s behaviour. We all know that Internet has drastically altered minds of our children.
It has made them recluse and inward looking individuals. Unless this trend is arrested, children of our times are going to suffer. The need to reach out to friends in physical form can not be replaced by online friends and followers. Spending evenings in front of computers, restricting physical activities will surely take toll on their health. Children will have to be coached and guided properly.

But certainly one group of population has benefitted from spread and popularity of these social media sites. Senior citizens and elderly persons, who used to spend their lives in solitude and loneliness, can now look forward to be in constant touch with their close ones through Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Chats or other means of communication. This has lifted their spirits and made them more positive about their outlook towards the life. One of my close relative, who lives alone, has turned in to a full time blogger after doing a short term course on Internet. The lady gets up early and eagerly looks forward to sharing her thoughts on newer issues. This has definitely added years to her life span. And she never misses a day thanking the gentlemen who got her introduced to the world of blogging.
