Skype 2.8 for Mac is here
After about a year’s wait Skype 2.8 for Mac (VOIP solution for Mac OS) is finally here. Click here to download beta edition. The final product is worth its wait. Skype has added some feature which are not there even in Skype for Windows. The most notable feature is screen sharing cutting across platforms – Windows, Mac or Linux. The screen sharing features may help e-learning, product demos, collaborations and online meetings. This feature allows one to either share full screen or part of the screen.
Another notable feature is “Skype Access”. In association with Boingo, Skype is offering WiFi connectivity on true usages only with Boingo’s terms and conditions. This obviates the need to buy fixed hours packs or pay for the full hour. Boingo WiFi hot-spots about 100,000 in numbers allows the users to access Internet on per minute charge basis on Skype credit. The charges are quite nominal roughly at €0.14 / $0.19 / £0.11 per minute (€0.16 / $0.22 / £0.13 including Luxembourg VAT at 15% where applicable).
Another feature is “mood messages” more like social networking site Twitter and Facebook, which displays the status updates. Like Skype 4.0 Beta2 for Windows, the Skype for Mac has facility to upload larger profiles with images of 256×256 pixels.
Experts believe that upgrades for Skype Windows and Linux will very soon be hitting the markets. But till that time it is Skype for Mac which will be ruling the roost.
