firefox Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome eats away IEs share consultingIE continues to lose its market share in the web browser market to its rivals Mac’s Safari, Mozilla’s Firefox and Google’s Chrome. IE has been over the years steadily losing its market share to its rivals. Since 2005, Net Applications Inc. has been tracking market share of major web browsers. IE’s continued decline may be a cause of worry for all in the Microsoft  ranks.  Surprising finding out of the Net Applications’ statistics is better rate of rise of Safari over Firefox.

It is undoubtedly difficult to throw out IE from its position, as it gets bundled with Windows OS which commands close to 95% market amongst desktops. But still based on recent data, IE  needs some special efforts to arrest this trend.  Analysts feel that decline in IE’s market share will stabilize in long term but unless the unbundling of IE from Windows OS pack take place, IE’s position on top of the heap will remain unchallenged. EU’s Antitrust agency has already charged Microsoft on shielding its IE from fare competition.  Click here to view market share data of web browsers.
