New mobile malware on prowl

New mobile malware’s five variants under Trojan-SMS.Python.Flocker family are on prowl. They have targeted Indonesian mobile service provider which has allowed users to transfer their credit or minutes to each others account. Various variants of these malwares were detected in past which were used send auto SMSes to the premium services.

The m-payments feature provided by mobile service providers is likely to come under severe attack if spread of these malwares is not checked. The anti virus programs do not feature so prominently on mobile devices and as a result, these devices present an attractive arena for malware authors to exploit the insecurities. The simple realization that there are more mobile users than PC and laptop users today has not yet dawned on malware authors.

The coming times would see rise in m-payments as more and more people would be keen to use their mobiles as the preferred mode of payment option. The ethical hackers need to be up and running and find out the potential breaches in securities. This would enable mobile service provider to plug any such loopholes and thwart any such attempt by the malware authors to create wide spread mayhem on mobile provider’s network.
