New light-weight Linux OS for Netbooks

moblin New light weight Linux OS for Netbooks consultingIntel surprised everyone when it came out with Linux based OS for netbooks. Intel has been working on its Moblin project close to one and half years now. Linux OS has been released initially for its Intel Atom based netbooks.  Moblin has been tested on Acer Aspire*One, Asus eeePC* 901 and Dell Mini 9 platforms and there are some known issues related with user interface.

Even wifi is not yet supported on Asus eeePC 901. But these issues will be taken care of in due course and based on feedback one by one issues will be sorted out. The most important point regarding netbboks are

  • OS has to be lightweight
  • And it should not be a drain on battery.

Moblin scores on these two important issues which are so crucial to netbooks. Netbooks will continue to hog limelight in the times to come. Some of the market watchers believe that in the coming years more and more people will dump their smart-phones and jump on to the netbooks bandwagon.  We believe that netbooks  are going to be more happening arena and after news about Google’s Android riding on netbook bandwagon the launch of Moblin is a great news. We wish every effort associated with netbooks a great success.
