Netbook
is generally toned down version of a small Laptop which is essentially meant for mobile users who would like to access mails, surf internet and write a few documents. With price tags of about $200-$400, these netbooks have caught fancy of today’s generation. And it is evident from brisk sales that these netbooks have recorded in the year which is just passing by. The three important things which make these netbooks attractive are compactness, low price and low consumption of power leading to longer battery life.
The concept of notebook is not new. Microsoft introduced this concept in 1990′s when it launched lightweight Windows CE operating system. Windows Mobile and Pocket PC OS are majorly from the same genre. But this never caught on and eventually got phased out.
To assess whether netbook will be useful, you need to jot scrutinize your work requirements. If you are constantly on the move and are expected to check and send lots of mail, then netbook would be ideal for you. On the other hand if you rarely venture out and most of you work requires handling and running lots of applications then netbook is not for you. - Screen sizes in netbook will be either 7″,8″ or 10″ while in notebook it will be 12.1″, 13.1″, 13.3″, 14.1″, 15.4, 17″ or even larger.
- Netbook offer less power, memory and storage thus it is difficult to run parallel applications and OS on them.
