Microsoft Groove Vs Google Wave.
Office Groove 2007 is a collaboration software program that helps teams work together dynamically and effectively, even if team members work for different organizations, work remotely, or work offline. Working in Groove workspaces saves time, increases productivity, and strengthens the quality of team deliverables. But irony is that it works in client server space. Google Wave on the other hand is web application and is being designed with entire IT space shifting towards cloud computing in near future. Microsoft Groove when it was launched some five years back was way ahead of its time.
But one thought always puzzles me that when Microsoft had access to a similar technology and application about 5 years ago then why and why they did not develop it. Google Wave of today is nothing but an improved web based communication and collaborative tool which Microsoft’s Groove could well have been. What I fail to understand that why Microsoft didn’t turn their Groove into Wave. About 5 years ago the Wave of the day was a product called Groove. It was far ahead of its time with respect to group collaboration. Microsoft had purchased it and eventually bundled it with Office. But Microsoft has not marketed it the way they should have. But for client -server application, Groove is the best.
The world is moving to the Cloud computing and I don’t think Groove would be there. These two applications are similar and represents the strategic positioning of the 2 big companies. From what we have experienced with Google Wave, I can put my stakes on Google Wave winning the battle hands on. Of all that I’ve seen with Google Wave so far, I am convinced that it will redefine how we collaborate, it will eventually replace email with realtime collaborative and communication tool.
