Microsoft and Yahoo to take on Google.
Amidst gloom all around and a year that Yahoo would like to forget, company had something to cheer about after seeing the Q4 reports published by Sunnyvale-based Efficient Frontier. The reports mentions three percent increase in Yahoo Inc. market share in search advertising market over Y to Y basis. However, Google Inc. stood tall at 76% market share in Q4:2008.
Google on the other hand their earnings plummet and revenue soar upwards in Q4:2008 results which were announced. The revenues in Q4:2008 were $5, 7 bn up 18% from $4, 83 bn from 2007. And like all previous years the search domain remains the strongest for Google. The highlight in Q4 was staying away of small advertisers from the search advertising market due to downturn.
Search remains the fastest growing sector in web space. The coming years will see many search engines trying to rival Google. Apart from Yahoo, Microsoft Live there are new entrants like Quintera and Cuil who are trying to peck a little on to the search advertising basket.
Microsoft Live has its task cut out for the year. The company will be eyeing for double digit market share in 2009. The importance Microsoft gives to the Search domain is evident from the fact that company will be having job cuts in almost all discipline barring the Search segment. Year will definitely see Yahoo and MSN taking on Google in right earnest.
