How secure are your passwords? Recently thousands of websites have been destroyed, altered and squatted upon by exposing chinks in the armors of browsers. These vulnerabilities have been exploited by many evil minds. The incidences have been significantly more in IE compared to other browsers simply because IE’s reach has been many a time more than other browsers like Safari, Firefox or the newbie Chrome. All these browsers have failed the vulnerability tests conducted by “Chapin Information Services“. The results are summarized below. The problem is so grave that Microsoft has come out with an emergency security patch for IE on 17th Dec. Others have also either joined the bandwagon are mulling to join the same.
In addition to what these companies will be doing if we are also on a bit of alert then we can thwart any such attempt by crooked fellows. Passwords get stolen primarily in three major ways.
- Site addresses where passwords are being send to is not checked
- The site address from where passwords are requested is not checked
- Invisible form elements triggering password management.
Password Manager employed by browsers are not fool proof and they at times aid the evil minds. The Glitches as commented by CIS are more pronounced in case of Chrome.
