Google search vs Wolfram Alpha vs Twitter search
Its May 2009 and Wolfram Alpha will be out anytime this month. The Wolfram Alpha, computational knowledge engine has this message on its website. There have been lot many posts on what Wolfram Alpha can do and who is it for. And the pre-release versions which many of us tried, definitely threw out some amazing results but how the query got framed, was most important in getting the right results.
Search engines take lots of time to mature and fine tune themselves. Wolfram Alpha is too technical presently and in its present avatar it will not be able to pose any challenges to Google. Wolfram Alpha will have to go through many testing phases. It will definitely be of help to scientists fraternity but for general users it won’t be of much help. Google will continue to thrive but definitely it has to evolve further. Computational engine is definitely a welcome concept but it will be early to tell about its impact of Google

Twitter search is also bringing about lots of changes. It plans to use some sort of ranking algorithm which will help Twitter rank messages or text based on context and relevance. Twitter search also plans to go further deep in to the messages and even search the URLs which are part of the tweets. In the present form twitter search churns out results with latest tweets on the queried keywords occupying the top positions. Ranking algorithms may change all that. But definitely it’s a long drawn out process and will involve lots of hard work.
But all these talks definitely herald a good times for users as the competition will churn out some real good products. Till then Google is the king.
