Should Microsoft distribute Windows 7 as free upgrade for licensed Vista users
The way Microsoft has hurried through the launch of Windows 7 Beta, it is in a way acknowledgment of ills which have been plaguing Vista. Windows 7 commercial launch is even expected in June 2009. Ballmer keynote address at Consumer Electronics Show 2009 was all about telling the world that the irritants of Vista like security notifications, shutdown or hibernate issues, sidebar etc all have been taken care of and what you have now is sleeker, easy to start up and shutdown Windows OS, which is more user friendly.
Vista as an OS was work of many years. Lot of R&D was put in to create a unique OS. But the problem was with so many features at the disposal, it became difficult for a Vista user to do simple works which he or she was accustomed to. Vista sp-I did help in resolving lots of issues but more efforts were needed to bring back the confidence level.
But the underlying challenge was to bring in a new OS which should be simple to work with. PC users all around the world were so used to XP’s simplicity that they were looking for an OS which would have all the features of XP plus some more. Vista was a letdown here. The new Windows 7 Beta version is comparatively more friendly and users would love the experience.
Since, every Vista users remember the good old XP even today, features in Windows 7 have been developed keeping in view the glitches encountered in the Vista OS. Therefore the question remains, If that is so, Why should Microsoft not offer Windows 7 as free upgrade to Vista users.
