In last few years, we have seen a lot many conferences organized to fix limits on emissions, fail. The issues have been hotly debated amongst the developed and developing countries but member nations have always been delaying the decisions, probably unaware of the dangers of climatic changes which are looming large over our heads. There have been serious attempts to formalize a treaty which will come in to effect after 2012 when the Kyoto Protocol expires.
The recent meeting of Environment Ministers held at Poznan in Poland also saw the world getting polarized between developing and developed nations. All major issues have been put on back-burner until the next meeting which will be held in Copenhagen in 2009. My cousin who was with a software company had tough time during last few months as the firm decided to trim its workforce. He did some freelancing jobs here and there but since the market condition remained sluggish, he could not find a stable source of income over last few months. He has now decided to take up employment in construction sector.Construction, I believe will be the profession of decade. Obama has already announced plans to infuse huge funds in to public works. Many companies have announced plans to build 24 gigawatts of Solar Photovoltaic plants in California state itself. There are many infrastructure projects related with Clean energy and Carbon credit planned in EU, China and India. Construction with focus on green tech will get the pride of place in professions of the decade.
Another career option will be in Recycling and waste management. With limited resources at our disposal, conservation and recycling of water is going to get a pig push. Today there are many upcoming concerns who specializes in management of e-waste. US and developed countries have already put in place sound systems to manage and recycle wastes regularly. in years 2007 alone about 200 million pounds of e-waste was recycled. Recycling and safe disposal of hazardous chemicals, gases and solids is an expert’s job and present great potential in times to come.
Energy conservation will continue to be another hot green job option in the coming decade. Energy management and conservation presents a great potential for BRIC countries.
