This is simply unbelievable. Microsoft offering a platform for PHP which directly competes with its own product ASP.NET, no web developer would have dreamt of.
Currently Web Installer 2.0 is supporting many popular blogging and content management systems. The most popular software packages being, PHP, PHP based WordPress & Drupal and Gallery. A common platform will definitely go a long way in installing PHP based applications on a common platform which might also be hosting an ASP.NET application.
Otherwise, depending upon which Operating system the popular choice would have been either LAMP (for Linux) or WAMP (for Windows). But with one masterstroke Microsoft has done away with many multifarious problems which Web developers were otherwise were having.
