Apple has come out with Safari 4 beta browser for Mac and Windows. Some of the Bloggers and Tech journals have been quick to lap it up and have made grandiose announcements claiming Safari 4 beta to be 42 times faster than IE 7. Some others have claimed it to be the fastest browser on the planet. Safari 4 is based on Apple’s WebKit, an open source rendering engine. Apple claims that Safari 4 is the first and the only browser to pass Acid 3 compliance test, which checks the browser’s ability to render web pages. Detailed reviews of Safari 4 browser can be found at http://www.apple.com/safari/features.html.
Another feature which Windows user will find distinctly attractive is Safari4 ’s integration with Windows. Safari browser for Windows gives a look which is reminiscent of any Windows application with well laid out toolbars, title bars and borders. Another first with Safari 4 is the grammar check. No browser presently checks the sentence formation and structure. Apple website claims Safari is the first such browser. Apple is also claiming that as regards JavaScript rendering is concerned, Safari 4 is at least 6 times faster than IE 8 and 4 times Firefox 3.1. The list of all firsts is quite impressive and apart from faster rendering of JavaScript if Safari 4 can perform as well on other parameters, I am sure Safari 4 will a product to watch out for.

Competition has only started hotting up amongst all browsers. There has been a steady increase in the market penetration of FireFox and Chrome over last few months. And if EU’s case against Microsoft for bundling of IE with Operating System gathers steam, other browsers will definitely gain.
