While Choosing Your Career, Can You Follow Your Heart over Mind?
Career planners and pundits have been vociferously yelling and ranting about the need for young guys to hear their heart’s voice and not get distracted over parental pressure when it comes to taking decision about the career.
While it is fortuitous to choose a career where you are heart and mind are in sync but those who chose such vocation are few lucky ones. Our education system produces human machines who are type casted to perform a specific task throughout their life. They don’t have the liberty to course correct their ordained path once they put their feet on life’s accelerator.That is the precise reason that their parents are worried lot and wants to see their child getting maxima from their life.
Parents have also gone through this ritual and they know here that mind prevails over heart. Our generation is witness to many young minds who could have been brilliant painters, flautists, singers and creative geniuses but today find themselves in 9 to 5 grind. In case you are brilliant in some field, for example you have been a key player of you cricket team and your school coach believes that you can one day play at senior level then surely you can give your sporting career a try. There have been cricketers like Shrikanth, Shrinath and Kumble who have studied engineering and then excelled in sporting arena.
Important point here is to judge the child and properly advice him. Child has to be exceptionally good in chosen offbeat field to be able to reach pinnacle of success else parents have to ensure that for an average child the studies are completed and right kind of guidance is given.
It’s cool to say that select a career where your heart is but for most of us who are average students selecting a career has to be a decision which is governed by mind and not by heart. The stuff shown in the recent movie ‘3 Idiots’ is ok but only for the guys who are good in some other field. For an average student, 9 to 5 grind is the only option.
