How to prolong Laptop battery life
Laptop has become an important accessory of a modern day executive. Blackberry can render limited service and if you intend to carryout hardcore work of calculations or making presentations on move, laptops are the only saviors. I travel a lot and like all tech savvy executives, rely heavily on laptops to impress upon my boss, clients and audience. But one thing which makes me dread most of the times is the indicator at the right bottom corner of my laptop which shows depleting stored power.
It’s true that one can not find power sources everywhere. Even during a live presentation there can be instances where power suddenly goes off and tons of records and data are at the risk of getting lost. So to keep your work safe you need to take care of your laptop and its battery. Taking care of your laptop battery is not very difficult. With very simple tips you can prolong battery life quite substantially. Some of these points are summarized below:-
- The moment a laptop is shipped out from the manufacturer’s works, battery starts losing capability to store power. And if laptop is most of the time run on AC power and very rarely it is being put on battery then battery will lose its ability to store up power, quite fast. It is recommended that at least once a month laptop may be allowed to use up all its power and let it hibernate. This will rev up the battery and keep it in healthy condition.
- Use Power Management Option which is available with Vista and XP to define sleep and hibernate timing. This could save lot of stored battery power as during idle hours laptop can go to sleep to save on the power. Power Management features can be activated by double clicking the battery icons on the right hand bottom corner of the screen.
- Don’t run the laptop without battery in place. As this can cause corrosion in the terminals and even make them dirty.
- Take out the battery if you are not going to use your laptop for prolonged period of time or if you use your lap top quite sparingly.
