Homeschooling Option, Tread With Caution.
Homeschooling was in past looked upon as the option exercised by conservationists who wouldn’t believe in established practiced norms about education and would believe in imparting education to their children at their own pace and beliefs. But over past decade or so the trend has caught on. More and more parents are now opting for Homeschooling flexibilities. But the issue here is to know whether you and your child meets the requisite criteria.
Homeschooling is just not for everybody. Homeschooling option is to exercised under special care and guidelines. Not every child can be Home-schooled. Homeschooling does have some negatives also. So it is important to understand whether your child fits the bill.
Criteria for selecting Homeschooling option.
- Special Children, specially the ones suffering with Autism or Spectrum disorders, do need homeschooling. They may find getting along with other children in the class difficult. They can be home-schooled under guidance from experts and counselors.
- Gifted children have some abilities which make them extraordinary. If these children are allowed to take the daily grind of public or private schools, their God gifted abilities suffers and they don’t get time to accentuate on their abilities. A child born with extraordinary abilities in music and arts would be wasting his or her time in studying science and engineering. But it is important that their talents are noticed early during their growing up years.
- Children, living in remote areas due to some compulsions can go in for homeschooling option.
Care to be taken for Homeschooling option.
- Homeschooling option is not so easy as it may sound. There is often a need to follow strict regimen equivalent to what one follows while in school.
- Parents need to be sincere and be aware of what should be the level of education which should be imparted during their growing up years. Year after year.
- Today there are Home-school consultants which can be called up to ensure and check whether children are being given right education.
- There are open schools in every country. Student may optionally get registered for examinations. Some countries do require students to pass some minimum level of examinations for getting admitted in to colleges. Open school option does offer help there.
- Since your child would be missing the school peer group, do ensure that your child does go out for sports and physical activities and mixes up with friends well.
- In case both parents are working then the responsibilities get scaled up as parents may not have sufficient time to Home-School their child. In such a case the best option should be either of parent should let go off their aspirations and start spending more time at home. They may take up the working-at-home option.
Homeschooling is a demanding task and if you and your child decide to adopt this option, give yourself some time to think and discuss with other Homeschoolers. You have to be very sure of what you are trying to do. Be sure that you are confident and can handle it well.
