It is said that through meditation, we come face to face with our soul. Self actualization dawns upon us and we sort of get rejuvenated. There are many ways through which one can go about meditation. One cannot learn or for that matter unlearn meditation in a day, a week or for that matter a month.

It seems ages. We have forgotten to write with our hands. We just scribble down some notes on our meeting pads or at times just SMS our thoughts to a colleague, friend or spouses. We have just about lost that feeling of achievement which is normally associated with writing. Today we generally lift our pen only to sign a bill or a cheque. We forgotten the joys and pleasures which are normally associated with handwriting.

Present day glut in world’s economy is reminiscent of recession which took the center stage in 1930s. World today is struggling to come to terms with this recession monster. The job losses have been unprecedented. All developed and developing economies are reeling under the onslaught of this monster. Panic has spread to India and China as well.

Most of us who have worked in corporate jungle know exactly how tricky this situation can be. You as the middle manager have been entrusted with some key responsibilities and management is looking forward for timely results. You have proved your worth on many occasion in past and that is why management has assigned you some key tasks. You are damn sure than these tasks can not be achieved in the specified time period if you decide to do it yourself. You have got a team of two bright young executives who are dying to get in to the action but your dilemma is that can you trust them? Given a choice you would work like a donkey rather than a suave manager and would like to do the work with unparalleled commitment and complete it within the time frame. But important thing is you do not have the choice. You are human and you are dead sure that if you can not do it then nobody can.

Now that Google and Yahoo’s ad deal is off, Yahoo has renewed its bid to align itself with Microsoft. Jerry Yang today said that Yahoo has never rejected the Microsoft’s earlier bid.

I have heard many senior managers cribbing about how meetings in corporate world are synonymous with eating and wasting time. Holding an effective meeting is not that difficult if some basic points are adhered to. Large organizations generally employ committees to streamline and coordinate their operations. It’s a normal management’s grouse that committees generally fail to serve the purpose for which they have been constituted. But organization needs them for many reasons. Committees, in many cases have added value to the organizations and have served as learning ground for younger lot by way of sharing of knowledge and experience.
